Gear Town Out in the middle of the scorching deserts of the badlands sits the mechanical metropolis that is Gear Town. Almost considered one giant machine in and of itself, the city is home to some of the most advanced technologies in the Duel World. Many a mechanical marvel has come out from within its iron walls. Just as Endymion is considered the holy land of magicians, machinists world over make the trek to the city, seeking out knowledge on machinery, and hoping to make their mark on the world. Gear Town welcomes these inquisitive minds, and pilgrims to the place will find a laid back atmosphere, more focused on one's self growth, rather than passing on their knowledge and ways. Unlike a lot of the other major cities, Gear Town tends to keep to itself. Rather self sufficient, while they are willing to help out their neighbours when asked, they would rather be left alone to their own devices. The city continues to grow, but it seems more like the natural growth of an organism, rather than actively seeking territorial expansion. Population If one only focuses on the flesh and blood population of Gear Town, the count would go to 20,000. However, throwing in the mechanical residents and that number climbs up to 100,000. Most of the residents work to build and maintain the various machines of the city, and welcome comers of all races that are mechanically inclined. Government Gear Town appears to lack a form of centralized government, with its two major factions, the Machinists Union and the Iron Brigade effectively running themselves. Gear Town is said to possess a central Core, a powerful computer that works to keep the city running. Though highly intelligent, the Core seems more focused on running the city than ruling it. Factions & Organizations The Machinists Union A large collection of the various machinists that populate Gear Town. The Union's goal is to essentially keep everything organized, trying to make sure everything is running smoothly, while providing support to up and coming mechanics and inventors. They essentially handle the maintenance of the city. The Iron Brigade Mostly comprised of machines and cyborgs (though some organic residents, mainly duelists, are also members), the Iron Brigade is the defensive force of Gear Town. Highly efficient, the put down threats to the town, both internal and external, quickly and with overwhelming power. Fortunately, the Brigade tends to keep to just Gear Town, unless called upon to help out another area. Relations For the most part, Gear Town is relatively neutral when it's comes to its neighbours. Even the likes of the Heavens and Darkworld can get some assistance from Gear Town if needed (Darkland especially due to their machinery for the rides and attractions). Gear Town mainly wishes to be left alone. That being said, there are some exceptions. Gear Town has a bitter rivalry with the Endymion Citadel, their devotion to magic clashing with their technological ways. It's only by some sheer fortune the two city states haven'tcome to blows. This animosity resulted in scholars and engineers from both cities breaking off and forming the floating city of Thunder City. This did alleviate tensions somewhat, if only by giving both cities a common enemy, seeing the flying city as a bunch of arrogant upstarts. Gear Town are on relatively good terms with Dark City, mainly due to their own high level of technology. They are also highly intrigued by the advanced technology of A Space, and have built up several counter measures to the dangers within. Likewise, Gear Town wants absolutely NOTHING to do with Toon World. Due to their chaotic nature, a toon's presencein Gear Town is enough to send the whole city on high alert. |
