The Harpy's Village Nestled within the high cliffs of the High Mountains, the Harpy's Village started simply as that. A settlement for the harpies that call the mountains their home. However, as time went on, other races, forming good relations with the winged people, started taking up residence amongst them. Initially surprised by this, the harpies quickly warmed up to their new neighbours. The village is divided into two levels. The upper level, located high in the cliffs and rock faces, is where the harpies dwell, with plenty of locations for taking off and landing. The lower level, where the non-harpy races live, is closer to the floor. Though this does not imply some sort of class system, as the arrangement is more for convenience than anything else. Even the name is just a throwback from old times that simply stuck. The overall atmosphere is calm, tranquil, with the residence of the village happy to just live out their lives in peace. Though there are always some who are eager for adventure, whether it be amongst the mountains they call home, or in the great, wide world. Population The Harpy's Village has a rather healthy population of around 1200 people, with a good majority of them being harpies. The non-harpy minority is made up of a mixture of races, mostly humanoid. Government The village is led by a small village council, chosen amongst the community. Though most of those on the council are harpies, there are some members of other races, all of them working to preserve their home. Factions & Organizations The Hunters A small cluster of hunters who go out into the surrounding wilderness. Their main job is to help gather resources for sustaining the village, such as hunting for food, gathering supplies and the like. However, they also act as protectors of the village, fending off all threats to their safety. Relations Being a small, quiet community as it is, the Harpy's Village isn't really one for global politics, mainly just happy to do their own thing. That being said, they are cordial towards visitors from other places, and can be just as ferocious to potential threats. In the grand scheme of things, they really aren't that important, and are pretty happy to keep it that way. That isn't to say they're oblivious to outside affairs. They do pick up news from travellers and visitors. Such stories even encourage some of the folks to go out into the world to explore it for themselves, something that's endorsed by the village as a whole. |
