Atlantis Deep beneath the ocean waves sits the city of the deep. The ancient home of those that live in the ocean. The great city of Atlantis is often the focus of folk tales and legends, but the ancient city isn't as lost as many would believe. Having been formed in such a distinct environment, compared to the rest of the Duel World, Atlantis has grown and developed in its own unique way. It's technology, a combination of local science and ancient magic, seems built for the city's exclusive use, with it being effectively useless outside of the water. Scholars are uncertain just how long Atlantis has existed for. It's only been in the last hundred years or so that they have recently opened themselves up to visitors. Though years of isolation have left the populace wary of newcomers, and wont take any offense lightly. Population Atlantis boasts an enormous population of 250,000 people. The population is all aquatic in nature, with the environment being unable to support other races without specific technology. As such, any non aquatics tend to come and visit, rather than try to stay there. Government Atlantis is a monarchy, ruled over by Poseidra, the Atlantean Dragon. Though he has agreed to allow visitors into his domain, he is a mistrusting, ferocious leader, who still hasn't fully nailed down whether he wants to bring Atlantis into the world community. He's more than prepared for whenever violence is called for. Factions & Organizations The Deep Army Atlantis' standing military. Though most proficient in battle in the water, they have lately developed combat skills when fighting on the land as well. The army is absolutely dedicated to Atlantis' sovereignty, and answer directly to Poseidra himself. The Abyss Corp. When the Mermail's home was destroyed due to a seismic catastrophe, Poseidra took in these refugees into Atlantis, but at a price. The Mermails now act as a sort of offshoot of the Deep Army, sent on highly dangerous missions. Rumors have surfaced that this is due to Poseidra not entirely trusting them and seeing them as expendable, though no tangible evidence has been found yet. Relations Atlantis is wary and skeptical of everyone else in the Duel World, from the kingdom of Stromberg, to the Sanctuary in the Sky, to Pandamonium. In their eyes, all these places are to be kept at arms length until they can be trusted, and even then, exercise caution. Everyone else, for their part, watches Atlantis with a cautious eye, especially since rumors started circulating that Poseidra may be itching for a fight. Of all the settlements in the Duel World, Atlantis has its eyes mostly in the Floating Village, if only because it's the closest to their domain. While the Floating Village would like to keep things civil, Atlantis watches it like a wild animal. Tolerating it until it becomes a problem for them. |
