The Floating Village A ramshackle collection of wooden buildings, walkways, and converted ships, all surrounding a small plot of land no bigger than a city block. The Floating Village has become the Duel World's most well known port town and trading post, and a rough testament to the tenacity of folks who don't wish to live anywhere else. The town had its origins as a pirate haven, sheltering criminals on the run from the law. However, with Atlantis opening its gates and travel in the area becoming more prevelant, many of the more savvy pirates decided to open up the town to travellers and traders, attempting to clean up its own image. They even implemented a "No questions asked" policy, to help convince traders to come. Many criminals do still use the place as a safe Hazen, but now the Floating Village tries to keep its more rowdy elements in check. To this end, Don Zaloog and the Plunder Patrol try to enforce a strict no piracy policy within the town. Despite these measures though, its well known history of piracy tends to make things a little difficult. Population The population of the Floating Village tends to fluctuate, with people constantly coming and going. As such it tends to range from 9,000 to 11,000, with residence running the whole gambit from humanoid, fiend, bestial, etc. The Floating Village doesn't discriminate. Government The current mayor of the Floating Village is a former bandit and crime boss named Don Zaloog. Having retired from crime, the Don and his former game now work to keep the town running. What the mayor lacks in power, he more than makes up for with cunning and guile. Factions & Organizations The Dark Scorpions Don Zaloog's former gang of thieves, they now basically act as the Floating Village's police force. They try to keep everything in order, but they are still bandits at heart, and there have been issues of them being bribed to look the other way. The Plunder Patrol A pirate crew comprised of goblins, and sporting some of the most powerful ships on the high seas. Though they do still engage in piracy from time to time, they have made an arrangement with Don Zaloog to act as a sort of navel fleet for the Floating Village, in exchange for setting up their base of operations there. Relations Though the Floating Village tries to portray itself is an upstanding port town, most of the Duel World is aware of their history as a pirate town. As such, everyone still considers the place as a hive of scum an villainy, even those who were never even criminals to begin with. The village's most tense relationship though is with Atlantis. They are aware of their domination under the seas, and just how potentially volatile their ruler, Poseidra is. As such, the Floating Village does everything it can to keep from angering the Atlanteans. Curiously enough, the people of the Floating Village are very interested in Dark City and Toon World. Being outer worlds, they hope to at least meet some folks who won't outright dismiss them as criminal scum. |
